Interviews with two local people who work with clients suffering from autism spectrum disorder, and how the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation handles autistic students.

It's a disorder for which there is no known cause or cure, yet instances of autism spectrum disorder are on the rise. Trend co-hosts John Gibson and Cass HerringtonĀ are devoting two weeks of the Trend to see how local people are dealing with this most misunderstood of conditions.

In Part One, Cass and John talk with local teachers and caregivers with slightly different approaches to helping autistic clients.Ā

Next week, in part two, we'll be doing something that conventional wisdom says is not possible. To show that autism is not a mental disease, we will bring a child with severe autism into the studio to answer listener calls in hopes of shedding some light on the disorder.
