Rezoning Vote Postponed After Opposition From Neighbors

Vanderburgh County Commissioners

Vanderburgh County commissioners have tabled an ordinance to rezone a plot of land in McCutchanville because of pushback from neighbors.

Developers want to build eighteen townhouses across nine buildings on the lot at 12401 Browning Rd. They would be single-family units that share a wall with one other townhouse. Units would start at $300,000.

Several neighbors spoke against the development at the commissioners meeting. They said the development could increase traffic and lower property values in the area.

Krista Lockyear represents the developers, B & L Properties, LLC. She told the commissioners she can’t address many of the residents’ concerns, and the current proposed development would best put their worries to rest.

"There’s nothing we can do about ‘We just don’t want it!'" Lockyear said. "The density that we are asking for in this zoning is the exact same density that we could have in a standard subdivision without the rezoning."

The developers will meet with neighbors to work out a written agreement. They hope to settle on a minimum asking price and some restrictions on land use.

The lot is currently zoned for agricultural use but would need to be rezoned as a planned-unit development, or PUD.

Commissioners are scheduled to vote on the rezoning July 17.
