Postponed ribbon-cutting held at Wesselman Park

Officials have finally cut a ribbon at Wesselman Park in Evansville, opening new playground equipment suitable for disabled children.

The A.D.A.-compliant equipment is open for kids ages 2-to-6.

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke thanked Ronald McDonald Charities for helping to replace old, outdated equipment.

The ribbon-cutting was originally planned for last May, but vandalism forced officials to postpone.

Mayor Winnecke says he’s satisfied with security in city parks. He says if somebody is determined to vandalize they’ll find a way to do it.

Winnecke also announced a second phase that will install new playground equipment at Wesselman for older children. The Parks Foundation and Deaconess-Riley will help pay for the second phase.
