Police investigating shooting and fire at gas station

Police have released more information about a shooting and fire at an Evansville gas station.

The EPD says in a news release that 27-year-old Thendis Compton was shot “multiple times” outside the Phillips 66 station at 1015 N. Main St. at about 1:00 Monday afternoon.

Police believe the victim and the suspect were arguing before the shooting, but it’s not clear if the two knew each other prior to the argument.

Witnesses said Compton was sitting on a moped that caught fire during the shooting.

He was taken to a hospital for treatment, and police said his injuries were not considered life threatening.

The suspect left the scene in a small silver car before officers arrived.

Investigators are working to identify the suspect, described as a light skinned African-American man with long hair.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the EPD at 812-436-7979 or the WeTip line at 800-78-CRIME.
