Oak Hill re-opens after widening project

Officials have cut a ribbon, re-opening a section of Oak Hill Road.

Construction lasted two years on the nearly $5 million road widening project that spanned more than a mile of Oak Hill, from Morgan Avenue to Lynch Road.

The project closed the road to through traffic and forced residents who live in the area to deal with an often rough stretch of roadway to get to and from their homes.

The project added bicycle paths, and rebuilt gutters, curbs and sidewalks. Federal sources funded about 80 percent of the project cost.

It followed an earlier improvement project on Oak Hill between Highway 41 and Morgan.
