Minor quake shakes area

A minor earthquake shook the Evansville area Thursday morning.

Authorities say the quake registered 2.3 and briefly shook the area at about 8:50 a.m. It was centered just northeast of the intersection of I-64 and I-69, near Elberfeld.

Officials say it’s unlikely that many people noticed the temblor, but some people posted on Facebook that they felt it on Evansville's East Side.

The 2.3 quake was too small to register on the U.S. Geological Survey’s website, but it was reported online at GlobalIncidentMap.com.

The quake originated about nine miles underground. There was no word of any damage.
