Man accused of killing one woman, wounding another

Formal charges are expected to be filed this week against an Evansville man accused of shooting a woman and her adult daughter.

56 year old Robert Ballard Jr. is expected to be charged with murder and attempted murder in connection with the shooting Friday night in the 1000 block of W. Delaware St.

In a news release, Evansville Police said Ballard targeted the victims and shot them as they sat in a car, with the adult daughter’s two children in the car.

The kids were not injured.

One of the women, 38-year-old Amanda Weir, died the next day at Deaconess Midtown Hospital.

Police believe Ballard had been in a relationship with one of the women and that the relationship had recently ended.

Police said an armed neighbor confronted Ballard as the shooting was happening and the two men exchanged gunfire.

Officers who were nearby heard the gunfire and responded to the scene.

They were able to take Ballard into custody without any further gunfire.

The neighbor was not wounded and police considered him a witness.
