LST to stay in Evansville

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke has announced that LST 325 will stay docked at Evansville for at least another five years.

Wearing an LST 325 cap, and standing at a podium with the World War II ship docked behind him, Winnecke called it a “great day” for the city. He thanked many people for the effort to keep the ship in Evansville, including the community at large.

Chris Donahue of the LST Board says Peoria, Illinois’ offer was looking good six months ago, but he says Evansville's offer to give the LST the first chance to move into the current Tropicana location - if and when Indiana approves land-based gaming - was a "game changer."

The city also agreed to improve signage to direct visitors to the ship off Waterworks Road and to improve the road to and from the ship.

The deal is good for five years, with another five-year option.
