Local unemployment falling

The jobless rate continues to improve in the Evansville area.

New figures from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development show Evansville, its metro area, and all of Southwestern Indiana with unemployment rates lower than one year ago.

The city’s unemployment last month was 5.4 percent, down from 6.7 percent a year ago.

The jobless rate for both Vanderburgh County and the multi-county Evansville metro area was 5.1 percent in November, down more than a full percentage point from November 2013.

Indiana’s statewide unemployment rate was 5.8 percent in November, down almost a point from a year ago, but a little higher than the November national jobless rate of 5.5 percent.
