Laser and ballistic technology lead to arrest

Officers used a laser and ballistics technology to arrest a Vanderburgh County woman accused of shooting at a neighbor’s house.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the incident in the 11,000 block of Petersburg Road in May, after a woman reported hearing a gunshot on her back porch.

The woman said she quickly went inside the house, and two days later found a spent bullet in a closet floor.

She also found bullet holes in the interior walls of the home.

A gun was later found in the grass near Petersburg Road and Beatty Lane.

A news release from the sheriff’s office said detectives set up a trajectory rod and laser to determine where the shot came from.

They say the laser illuminated the back door of a home on nearby Heard Street.

The victim explained that she and the neighbor on Heard got into a fight that sent both of them to the hospital in February.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for the Heard Street home and recovered evidence.

The bullet found by the victim, the gun, and items collected from Heard Street were sent to the Indiana State Police lab for ballistic and class characteristic examination.

The sheriff's office said the gun matched the discarded gun.

Officers arrested 45-year-old Amy Marie Grannan on a preliminary charge of Criminal Recklessness on Wednesday.
