IN jobless rate at 14-year low

Indiana’s unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest point in 14 years.

The Department of Workforce Development says the jobless rate for October was 4.4 percent.

That’s the lowest unemployment rate in Indiana since August 2001. The state’s jobless figure has dropped almost one-and-a-half percent since October of last year.

The workforce development agency says the biggest job growth last month was in the manufacturing sector, which added 5,400 jobs. The education and health sectors posted 2,900 new jobs.

But the net jobs gain in the private sector was just 100 due to losses in trade and transportation. Professional and business services also reported a drop in October.
