Ivy Tech offering truck driver training

Ivy Tech is looking for potential truck drivers.

The technical college on Evansville’s North Side has partnered with Kentucky-based Lake Cumberland CDL Training School to offer a four-week truck driving course.

Lake Cumberland’s Cindy Alexander tells WNIN that drivers could be on the job in less than a month. She says the course takes four weeks at a cost of $4,000.

Alexander says some companies are offering scholarships for the training, and Work One can provide assistance.

Ivy Tech Chancellor Jonathan Weinzapfel says new truckers earn up to $20 an hour.

Two companies provided “big rigs” for the news conference on the Ivy Tech parking lot, and Weinzapfel got behind the wheel of one of them and honked the horn.

Weinzapfel says he’s wanted to do that since he was a kid.
