IU trustees to meet Friday to discuss expanding the Medical Education Campus to Evansville

A community event is planned to begin at 11:45 at the Old National Bank Atrium where the general public may view via live-stream broadcast. A brief presentation and reception with light refreshments will follow. Seating is limited.

A decision as to the new site of a multi-institutional academic health science education campus is expected on Friday, April 11th as the Trustees of Indiana University will meet on the IU campus in Bloomington. The four final proposals will be discussed early Friday morning in a committee meeting and presented for a vote in the afternoon session beginning at approximately 12:00 p.m. CDT. The meetings, presented in keeping with the State Code of Indiana, are open to the public.

Planning for the campus began in 2012. The expanded medical education campus will include space for the IU School of Medicine –Evansville four-year program as well as graduate medical education programs from the University of Evansville, University of Southern Indiana and IU School of Dentistry. Ivy Tech Community College of Southwest Indiana plans to relocate all existing and planned health science programs to the new campus. Construction is expected to begin in 2015 with classes starting in the fall of 2017. 

The Indiana University School of Medicine is the second-largest medical school in the United States. With a focus on service to the state, the school includes the main campus in Indianapolis and eight additional campuses affiliated with IU and other Indiana universities.
