IDEM hearing on A.B. Brown Wednesday evening

A public hearing is set for Wednesday evening in Mt. Vernon to discuss a plan to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions.

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has proposed emission limits for Vectren's A.B. Brown power plant, after the EPA listed Posey County among regions with plants exceeding emission standards.

The Sierra Club’s Wendy Bredhold rejects IDEM’s proposed emission limits.

She tells WNIN that IDEM’s plan ignores other sources of sulfur dioxide in the region.

Bredhold says sulfur dioxide can cause asthma attacks, especially in children and persons with respiratory problems. She notes Marrs Elementary School is near the plant.

She also points to the nearby USI campus and the Solarbron retirement home.

The public hearing is set for at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Mount Vernon Fire Station.
