Holiday World announces new coaster

Roller Coaster enthusiasts can look forward to a major addition to Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari.

The theme park in Santa Claus has announced its largest-ever investment in a single attraction, the $22 million Thunderbird roller coaster.

Holiday World President Matt Eckert says the steel coaster will take riders from 0-to-60 miles an hour in 3.5 seconds. It will also feature a 14-story loop and a number of rolls.

Eckert says the design is unique, because riders are situated on either side of the track's tubular rails, giving the sensation of having “nothing above or below you."

The new coaster will be built by a Switzerland-based company and should open to the public next summer.
