GOP throws a party in Evansville

The Indiana Republican State Convention gets underway Friday night in Evansville.

The convention runs through Saturday at the Ford Center and will feature keynote remarks from Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and speeches from Indiana’s top elected GOP officials – including Governor Eric Holcomb and Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch.

Republicans will also vote on a new party platform during the convention, and a contentious issue has been the definition of marriage.

A proposal to drop the definition as “between a man and a woman” has received pushback from many GOP members, including House Leader Brian Bosma.

The convention is a big “get” for Evansville. It’s just the second time in history that the state GOP has held its convention outside Indianapolis.
