Food trucks could be popping up in Downtown Evansville, as soon as Monday.
The Safety Board has approved a food truck “test block” on the northwest side of Third Street between Locust and Walnut.
Officials say the trucks will be set-up at least 100 feet from existing brick-and-mortar restaurants.
Current municipal ordinance doesn’t allow food trucks and trailers downtown, and Joshua Armstrong of the Southwest Indiana Chamber says in a news release that it’s an “impediment” to “existing and budding entrepreneurs.”
Food trucks must be licensed by the Vanderburgh County Health Department and vendors must purchase a street vendor permit from the city controller’s office.

The pilot program runs through the end of the year.
