Four hit by car at July 4th party

Indiana State Police are trying to determine the cause of a car crash that injured four pedestrians in Spencer County.

Troopers from the Jasper Post were dispatched late Wednesday night to State Road 545 in New Boston, where two vehicles had collided and 4 nearby people were hit by a vehicle involved in the crash.

In a news release, the ISP says 2 of the pedestrians were airlifted to hospitals with serious injuries.

An ambulance took the other 2 pedestrians to a hospital.

The names of the injured pedestrians have not been released.

The ISP says all four were attending an Independence Day gathering.

Troopers said a car driven by 28-year-old Patrick Taylor-Gerber of Tell City crashed into a vehicle driven by a 17 year old from Owensboro.

Police said Gerber’s vehicle then struck the pedestrians.

The juvenile driver was treated for non-life threatening injuries and Gerber wasn’t injured.

Police are investigating whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

The investigation closed State Road 545 for about 3 hours.
