Evv Museum gearing up for theater grand opening

Walking into the new Eyekamp wing of the Evansville Museum and into the new immersive theater, you might think you’re in another city, if not another world.

The Museum’s Josh Gilmore led reporters and teachers into the digital domed theater, and science director Mitch Lumanand his staff projected previews for upcoming movies onto the dome.

The display of stars and swooshing colors -- similar to a scene from "2001 A Space Odyssey" --  gives you the feeling that you’re zipping through space. And the clear, digital display is light years beyond the museum’s old planetarium, which was installed more than 60 years ago.

Officials will cut the ribbon officially opening  the immersive theater, Friday afternoon. WNIN’s The Trend will broadcast live from the museum from noon until 1:00 that day. We’ll also be on hand for the ribbon cutting at 2:00.
