EVSC, teachers reach deal

The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation and the local teachers’ union celebrated the first day of school by agreeing to a tentative contract.

Evansville Teachers Association President Mark Lichtenberg tells the Courier and Press that the agreement will provide teachers with an across-the-board salary increase for the coming school year, as well as a compensation model that provides “a mechanism to provide increases to teachers’ base salary” for qualifying teachers.

The union is witholding specifics of the contract until a meeting of its members later this month.

ETA contracts include EVSC teachers, psychologists, media specialists and counselors.

Meanwhile, employees represented by The Teamsters union are still working without a new contract. That group includes bus drivers, bus aides, custodians, special education assistants and secretaries.
