EVPL accepting food for fines

If you owe money to the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library, you can donate nonperishable food items to settle your debt.

Starting Monday through Dec. 15th, EVPL cardholders can donate unopened canned or boxed food during the annual Food for Fines program.

Each item donated counts as $1 in overdue fines, and will benefit the Evansville Rescue Mission and the Emergency Food Pantry Coalition.

A news release from the library calls it a “good will gesture for everyone.”

The maximum amount waived will be $10 per patron.

You can also donate food items even if you don’t owe the library any money.

Last year, more than 10,000 pounds of food were collected during Food for Fines.
