Evansville to pay more in rebalanced agreement

The city of Evansville will be paying 35% more to the Area Plan Commission, an increase which wasn’t planned for in this year’s budget.

This year the city will pay an additional $60,000 for re-development and re-zoning. Monday night the city council approved an adjusted payment agreement for a joint department shared with Vanderburgh County.

In the original agreement, the city paid 15%, but now the expenses will be split 50-50. City controller Russ Lloyd said the change reflects the number of permits issued.

“Whenever it was set up, the thought was ‘Well, all the development’s out in the county, it’s not in the city anymore,’ but it turned out to not necessarily be so," he said. "Because of re-zonings and different things going on in the city, it’s closer to 50/50. So, we think that’s a better distribution of funds now.”

Lloyd said several other joint departments will be reviewed for unbalanced payment splits.
