EPD Pushes Back Against Recently Surfaced 2014 Article

The Evansville Police Department (EPD) is pushing back against a 2014 article, which they say has recently resurfaced on social media. Police say it now mischaracterizes the meth problem in Evansville.

The article names Evansville the meth capital of the world, and EPD says some social media users have asked how police should respond.

The article cites a separate 2014 article which uses data from the year prior to rank Indiana first in the country for the number of meth labs. That year, police confirm there were 115 meth lab seizures in Vanderburgh County alone.

Police say the 2013 numbers are accurate, but they don’t reflect the situation today. Police say the number of meth labs seized has decreased drastically in recent years. Only five have so far been seized this year.

Police call concerns over the allegedly high number of meth labs in Evansville “unwarranted.”
