Dunkin' Donuts plans half a dozen shops in Evansville area

The Evansville area may soon see a donut war.

Dunkin' Donuts had announced plans to develop six shops in the Evansville area, including one location that will feature a Baskin-Robbins ice cream shop.

Dunkin’ plans to open its first Evansville location in 2018.

In a news release, the Massachusetts-based company says it signed a multi-unit store development agreement with Maruti (muh-ROOT-ee) Donuts, which already operates Dunkin' Donuts shops in Indiana.

The company didn’t specify the planned Evansville locations, but it will likely face competition from the current prominent donut business in the area, Donut Bank.

The local chain has six locations in Evansville, one in Newburgh, one in Henderson, and one in Princeton.

Another major donut chain, Crispy Kreme, operates a shop on Burkhardt Road on Evansville’s East Side.
