Renovations are planned to begin this August on the former CVS building on North Main Street. Moving into the building will be the national dialysis company DaVita. Tuesday morning representatives from the company told the Evansville Redevelopment Commission the goal is to open the new location as early as January.

DaVita already has eight operating facilities in the area and three additional locations are being added. DaVita HealthCare Business Development Group Director Scott Emley said the expansion addresses the growing need for dialysis.

“End Stage Renal Disease grows at approximately eight percent a year; new patients coming on. It’s a chronic disease; these patients who are on dialysis, stay on dialysis for their entire life unless they are afforded the opportunity of a transplant,” said Emley.

The new location plans to have 13 in-center stations and four home stations. The additional chairs will help patients schedule times that work best for them.

“We start as early as five in the morning and sometimes end at ten or eleven o’clock at night. That isn’t always conducive for patients; particularly those who work, they want earlier shifts not the late shift," said Emley. "So we’re adding capacity in the area to provide shift opportunities for the patients so they can choose rather than us saying you have to be on a third shift.”

DaVita HealthCare provides service to approximately 1.5 million patients worldwide.
