As we get settle into our new home at Two Main Street, WNIN will have some new hardware to show off to visitors in the coming months.
We were notified this week that the community's support for quality journalism has resulted in WNIN-FM being named the Overall Excellence winnerfor Region Seven of the Radio Television Digital News Association. Region Seven is comprised of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. WNIN competes in the small radio market division in this contest.
We achieved another first for WNIN. We were also awarded the Excellence in Video honor for Region Seven for our video produced in conjunction with the investigation of the impact of a trusted court expert's crime.
Both entries are now finalists in the national Edward R. Murrow Award contest. Winners are announced in June. WNIN has won one national Murrow, in 2015, for our coverage of autistic teens learning to communicate.
What set WNIN apart in 2017 was the increased use of digital and video, the diversity of our programming such as ¿Qué Pasa Midwest? and our community efforts such as our Day Out broadcasts and other public forums.
Other honors in 2018:
- Nine awards from the Indiana and Kentucky Associated Press Associations, including the Outstanding News Operation in Indiana for Metro Radio and our breaking news coverage of a police involved shooting in Evansville.
- A National Sigma Delta Chi award from the Society of Professional Journalists for our radio documentary on the impact of a trusted court expert's felony conviction in Indiana.
- Finalist honors in the Scripps Howard Foundation and the Investigative Reporters and Editors national contests
