City to meet with lender for McCurdy project

Evansville officials are hopeful that a renovation of the former McCurdy Hotel will start soon.

The city has postponed a special hearing in which a penalty process could have begun for the current owner, Kunkel Group.

Instead the head of Metro Development, Kelly Coures tells WNIN that Kunkel will allow the city to meet with its lender and confirm that financing is in place for the $12 million project.

The hearing regarding the McCurdy has been rescheduled for March 12th, to allow time for city officials to meet with the lender.

Kunkel plans to renovate the historic riverfront hotel and turn it into market-rate apartments. The hotel opened in 1917 and in later years housed a retirement home. It has sat vacant since 2006.
