City helps businesses fix-up facades

Seven Evansville businesses are getting help from the city to improve their exteriors.

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke announced the recipients of $200,000 in façade grants allocated by the city council. They are Lamasco Bar and Grill, the new Zuki Japanese Restaurant on Main St., Bokeh Lounge, Kirby’s Private Dining, Piece of Cake, DiLegge’s Restaurant, and Goldman’s Pawn Shop.

A committee chose the seven finalists and two alternates based on their proposals’ vibrancy, their ability to pay a portion of the projects’ costs, and the impact on the surrounding neighborhood.

Officials say they’re looking at other funding sources to provide more grants for business façades in the future.
