Beshear headed to Europe

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear will travel to Europe this weekend.

Beshear’s office says the governor is leaving Saturday for a five-day economic development trip to Germany and Sweden.

He’s been invited to speak at a symposium in Germany, where he will discuss Kentucky's role in the global auto industry. More than a thousand auto executives from around the world will gather for the yearly conference.

The governor's office says Beshear will also promote Kentucky to potential new businesses and strengthen ties with European companies already operating in the commonwealth. Beshear will be accompanied by state economic development officials during the trip.

Trade between Kentucky and Europe topped $16 billion last year.
