Accuride buying German company

An Evansville-based company that makes commercial wheel components is buying a German wheel-maker.

Accuride says it’s reached a deal to acquire Mefro Wheels, which supplies steel wheels for European and Asian cars, light vehicles, and commercial trucks.

A news release from Accuride doesn’t say how much the acquisition will cost.

Accuride is headquartered in Evansville and operates a plant in Henderson. Mefro is headquartered are in Solingren, Germany.

Accuride President and CEO Rich Dauch says the acquisition will “solidify” the company’s position for “future growth.”

The news release says the acquisition will create an international supplier of wheels and wheel components, employing about 5,000 people at 15 manufacturing facilities.

Accuride purchased a majority stake in an Italian wheel supplier in 2015.

A year later, the New York-based equity firm Crestview Partners acquired Accuride.
