ABC rejects Evie's

The Vanderburgh County Alcoholic Beverage Commission has said “no” to a proposed restaurant and music club near Downtown Evansville.

The commission voted against issuing a beer, wine and liquor permit to Evie Waddell.

The former Bosse High School basketball standout wants to open a restaurant and music venue called Evie’s inside the former CVS pharmacy building at Washington and Kentucky.

Several neighborhood residents spoke out against permitting the sale of alcohol at the facility.

Waddell argued that his business would be positive development in the neighborhood.

The Courier and Press reports the commission voted 3-to-1 against the alcohol permit.

The building was vacated in 2010 when CVS relocated to the corner of Highway 41 and Washington. In the fall of 2012, a secondhand retail shop moved in, but left about a year ago.
